In the early 2000’s, Mikigold was a pianist and flutist in a jazz and bossa nova combo. Her enthusiasm for music on vinyl eventually made her consider the turntables as the instrument of choice.
“I was so happy with my first setup at home, to be able to mix the records I had collected for years. I made a demo and to my surprise I won a slot at 10 Days Off, a legendary electronic music festival in my hometown Ghent.”
In 2009 she co-founded SupAfly Collective, a creative platform to promote female hiphop culture, which was seriously undervalued at that time. With the collective she has organized countless events in and around Brussels and Ghent and they’ve hosted a weekly radio show on BRUZZ from 2010 to 2022. Together with her fellow Supafly DJ’s she toured as the only female DJ-quartet in the country.
Nowadays Mikigold can be found at Kiosk radio for a monthly residency alongside DJ Fatoosan, with whom she shares a passion for soulful, groovy sounds that speak to the heart. She as a support act for Zap Mama, Speech Debelle, Moka Only, Yarah Bravo, Little Dragon, HER, NAO, Sampa The Great, Golden Rules, STUFF, Kokoroko, Little Simz a.o.
